Vernacular is local language. It’s a way of talking that resides in a place. We strive to build with materials and techniques that are of the place we live: Cascadia. We strive to build in a way that honors the place we live and the people who live there.
So far, this has meant the pursuit of building materials that:
come from maximally localized supply chains
are composed of non-toxic substances
have low embodied carbon
are sourced from responsible land management practices
In real terms this has meant building with:
straw bales
timber frame
round pole
natural plasters
earthen floors
hemp/lime
straw/clay
